Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) Vaccine in Peterborough
Measles, mumps, and rubella are viral infections effectively prevented by the Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine. While prevalent worldwide, these infections are most common in Asia, Africa, and South America. Outbreaks can occur in regions like Europe, North America, and Australia/New Zealand where populations are either unvaccinated or under-vaccinated.
These viruses spread through infected droplets released during coughing or sneezing or can be transmitted from surfaces to the nose and mouth through hand contact.

Who Can Receive the MMR Vaccine?
The NHS includes MMR immunization in its childhood vaccination program. Those lacking two doses of the MMR vaccine should schedule a vaccination appointment with their GP.
It’s crucial to confirm you’ve received both doses if you:
- Are starting college or university.
- Plan to travel abroad.
- Are considering pregnancy.
- Work as a front-line health or social care worker.
- Were born between 1970 and 1979, as you might have only been vaccinated against measles.
- Were born between 1980 and 1990, as you may lack protection against mumps.
For those unable to obtain the vaccine from their GP, our private MMR vaccination service is available for adults and children who:
- Haven't completed the full MMR vaccine course.
- Are 12 months of age or older.
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding (with no pregnancy plans for one month following vaccination).
- Are not immunocompromised (having a weakened immune system).
- Haven't experienced an allergic reaction to a vaccine before.
- Haven't had a temperature in the 24 hours leading up to the appointment.
